After all these years in practice I came across these ingrown nails. They belonged to a 25 year old gentleman who said they really did not hurt him. His girlfriend wanted them fixed. Not only did I remove the edges of the nail plates as described on the prior page but I also cut away most of the build up of tissue around the nails. This build up is called granulation tissue and is really a mass of blood vessels. After I cut it away I "cauterized it" with silver nitrate. As of this early date I do not know what more I will have to do to these toes to allow the nail to grow back properly but I am sure this first procedure is not the only surgery these toes are going to have. I will keep you posted.
