piezo.jpg (79041 bytes)These little bumps for unknown reasons are called PIEZOGENIC PAPULES (double-click the photo to see in all their glory). They are little herniations of fat that have popped through the lattice work of subcutaneous tissues. I liken it to the little diamond shaped pieces of skin that pop through when you hold a fishing net tight to the skin. Piezogenic papules are absolutely benign and do not have to be removed. Only in rare circumstances should you remove them. They are in an area of the foot that has poor blood supply and does not like to heal (no pun intended) and their removal can sometimes lead to a slow to heal wound. .
