1. These are little areas of damaged skin caused by a flood of cholesterol deposits. The deposits are flecks of cholesterol that were in blood vessels in his groin. To perform an angioplasty a tube is inserted into a groin artery and threaded to the heart. The tube scraped the artery walls and loosened the cholesterol deposits. The deposits went downstream to the tiny vessels in the toes and blocked further blood flow. Eventually these areas will heal from blood coming in from neighboring vessels. Until that happens, however, he is in for some pain in his toes and feet. The take home lesson is that if your heart vessels are clogged, so to are other vessels.
